The National Chrysanthemum Society has announced that the NCS National Convention and Show for 2021 is now canceled. Those of you who have registered should have received an email from Leanne Ortega, the NCS Treasurer. Leanne will be mailing the refund to you. COVID-19 Delta variant is one of several reasons that the National and the Central Carolina chapter decided to cancel the event. Our members’ health is a key factor in the decision – especially for those members who would have to travel by airplanes and then just be in the hotel in North Carolina. A reminder, if you have made hotel arrangements, you are responsible for canceling the reservation directly with the hotel.
For the same health concerns of COVID-19 Delta variant, ODCS will not be holding our chapter show this year either. We feel that this is the right decision as we do not want to place our members at health risk in an indoor environment.
Again, thank you everyone for taking our recent survey to aid us in our planning. We’ve had over 60% of our members responded, which is very impressive! Fourteen members replied that they would show their blooms at an outdoor park pavilion, 19 members replied that they would attend an informal show, and 20 members replied that they would send in photos of their mums for a Zoom show.
As a result of the survey, we have booked Shelter A, the covered pavilion at Burke Lake Park for our informal show. It will be held on Sunday, October 31st, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. Parking is readily available, with easy access. Bathrooms are very close by. As you can see from the photo below, the pavilion is spacious. We will follow safety precautions for the event to include spacing and wearing masks. It will also be an educational learning experience as well. Additional details to follow at a later date.
Since many respondents to the survey replied yes to send in photos, we will host the Zoom Mums Photo Show as we did in 2020. Please start photographing your mums as they bloom, until November 10th. More details to follow on this as well.
